Dr. Will

William Tantum, OD

• Optometric Physician

• CEO & Practice Director

 

Dr. Will was born and raised right across the Tennessee River in Knoxville. He grew up in Rocky Hill and graduated from Bearden High School. Dr. Will ventured out west to play football in college and received his degree in Biology from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana.

 

Dr. Will attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree. He completed several clinical internships to complete his training & education. These internships included a private practice rotation in Knoxville, an internship at The Eye Center in Memphis and a clinical internship at a surgery center in East Tennessee. Dr. Will was awarded Southern College of Optometry's Top Clinician Award during his 3rd year studies, and he received the Academic & Clinical Excellence Award at the completion of his 4th year. He was also named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges while at Southern College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Will holds his license to practice full-scope general and medical optometry in Tennessee, South Carolina and Montana.

 

Dr. Will serves as the Associate Director of Digital Media for a large optometric consulting & resource group. He also serves as an Associate Editor of Practice Management for the world's largest online optometric community, and he regularly writes articles for publication in optometric magazines and journals. Dr. Will speaks nationally at conferences on the topics of practice management and leadership. He was named as a recipient of the 2017 WIVK Lexus Leaders Award which recognized him for his continued contributions to his local community. In 2013, Dr. Will created the Eye Love Program which helps to provide eye healthcare and eyewear to people around the world. The program donates a brand new pair of eyewear each time that someone buys a frame from Blount County eye Center. Eye Love has grown over the years to now also include programs to support local First Responders as well as individuals in Blount County with financial barriers to eye care.

 

In his free time, Dr. Will loves to woodwork and build things. Many of the pieces of furniture and art at BCEC were built by him! He also enjoys working in his yard and fly-fishing. He lives in Blount County and is very proud to live, work and own a business in such an amazing place.

Dr. Lloyd

Lloyd Tantum, OD

• Optometric Physician

• Medical Director

• CFO

 

Dr. Lloyd was born in New Jersey, but discovered east Tennessee early on and has never looked back since. Dr. Lloyd attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and received his degree in Biology.

 

Dr. Lloyd attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree. He completed several clinical internships to complete his training & education. These internships included a rotation through an Indian Health Services clinic in Arizona, a private practice internship in Athens, TN, and a clinical internship at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.

 

Following optometry school, Dr. Lloyd completed a residency in Ocular Disease at Vision America in Nashville, TN. He has also published several papers and posters as well as authored chapters in eye care textbooks.

 

Currenly, Dr. Lloyd holds his license to practice full-scope general and medical optometry in Tennessee, North Carolina and Montana. He's a member of the American Optometric Association, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians and the Tennessee Eye Care Alliance.

 

Dr. Lloyd loves to tackle challenging medical eye care cases. He's devoted his career of over 40 years in optometry to helping people to live healthier lives with better vision! Dr. Lloyd served as the eye doctor for Tennessee Lady Vols athletics for over a decade and he was able to be a part of several of the National Championship teams.

Dr. Susan

Susan Carter, OD

• Optometric Physician

• Director of Pediatrics & Vision Therapy

 

Dr. Susan is originally from Kingsport, TN. She attended college right here in Blount County at Maryville College where she majored in Biochemistry.

 

Dr. Susan attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree. She completed several clinical internships to complete her training & education. These internships included a private practice rotation in Chattanooga, an internship at The Eye Center in Memphis, and a clinical internship with Southeast Eye Specialists in Chattanooga. While attending optometry school, Dr. Susan received the Clinical Science Award and the Ocular Instruments Award of Excellence during both her 1st and 2nd years. She was recognized during her 3rd year with the American Public Health Association Outstanding Student Project. Finally, during her 4th year she was named to the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and received recognition with the Outstanding Clinician Award.

 

Following optometry school, Dr. Susan completed a residency in Pediatrics & Vision Therapy at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. She has also published several papers and posters as well as lectured at regional and national conferences.

 

Currently, Dr. Susan holds her license to practice full-scope general and medical optometry in Tennessee.

 

Dr. Susan is extremely passionate about giving her time and skills to those around her. She has participated in sight-saving mission trips in Belize, Columbia and India. She also regularly participates in local initiatives and events to help the homeless and underprivileged. Dr. Susan devotes a lot of her time as well to her local church community and is actively involved in leadership there.

Dr. Cassie

Cassie Bruno, OD

• Optometric Physician

 

Dr. Cassie is originally from Georgia and attended the University of Georgia in Athens where she received her degree in Biology.

 

Dr. Cassie attended Salus University - Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park, PA where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. She completed several clinical internships to complete her training. The internships included a rural clinic rotation in North Carolina, an internship at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia, PA, a private practice rotation in South Carolina, an internship at the Woolfson Eye Institute in Atlanta, GA and a rotation at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. While in optometry school, Dr. Cassie aided in the creation of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) club on her campus.

 

Currently, Dr. Cassie holds her license to practice full-scope general and medical optometry in Tennessee.

 

Dr. Cassie has a passion for helping individuals with vision impairments and low vision. She created an outdoor recreation program in Knoxville for children with low vision issues and has served as a volunteer at a School for the Blind in Trujillo, Peru. She also devotes her training and skills to precision fitting specialty contact lenses as well as helping those suffering from low vision.

Dr. Chantel

Chantel Galipeau, OD

• Optometric Physician

 

Dr. Chantel was raised in North Dakota. She received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri.

 

Dr. Chantel attended Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. She completed several clinical internships to complete her education & training. These internships included the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA, the prestigious Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center in Mesa, AZ and a private practice internship with vision development in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Chantel was awarded the Outstanding Student award at Pacific in 2014.

 

Following optometry school, Dr. Chantel completed a residency in Primary Care & Ocular Disease at Mountain Home VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. It was during this residency that she fell in love with east Tennessee!

 

She currently holds her license to practice full-scope general and medical optometry in Tennessee.

 

Dr. Chantel truly has a heart for service to others! She absolutely loves to serve the underprivileged both locally and internationally. She has served in eye care missions in Tanzania, Peru, Nicaragua and South Africa. Dr. Chantel really enjoys traveling the world on service trips.
